I warmly welcome you to the November 2025 edition of Singles’ World. In the last edition, we examined Omugwo as a cultural and traditional practice which, sadly, has become a source of conflict in many homes today. I sincerely hope that the series was impactful. I pray that the Holy Spirit will guide you when you arrive at that stage in your marriage.

In this edition, I want to discuss infidelity in Christian marriage. My prayer is that the Lord will use this message to guide our families and restore those who have already become victims of infidelity, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Introduction

Infidelity is one of the leading causes of divorce and marital breakdown in society today, including Christian homes. Many believers assume—though wrongly—that marriage is a cure for adultery because 1 Corinthians 7:2 says, “Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.”
However, marriage in itself does not automatically end adultery; at best, it regulates and disciplines our sexual lives. Sadly, in these end times, the enemy is relentlessly attacking marriages. Many homes have been destroyed by sexual immorality. Adultery thrives today not because the Word of God lacks the power to deliver but because many people ignore the foundational principles of godly relationships.

Jesus Himself acknowledged that marriage does not eliminate the possibility of infidelity. Being married does not insulate anyone from temptation. Even when you are not seeking immorality, some people may be seeking you. That is why Jesus made sexual immorality the sole legitimate ground for divorce. In Matthew 19:9, He declared: “And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery…”

Hebrews 13:4 further warns, “Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.”
This shows that even within marriage, the marriage bed can be defiled. Therefore, marriage is not automatically a safeguard against adultery; rather, it places upon us a divine obligation to keep the bed undefiled.

From the Old Testament to the New Testament, God’s stance against adultery has remained consistent. In Exodus 20:14, Scripture commands, “Thou shalt not commit adultery.” Proverbs 6:32 adds: “Whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding…” And in Galatians 5:19, adultery is listed among the works of the flesh. The message is clear: God forbids adultery at all times.

The Prevalence of Infidelity in Society

The rate at which infidelity is spreading today is alarming. It cuts across all social groups—the poor and the rich, the educated and the uneducated, and the religious and the unreligious. Born-again Christians fall into it, as do unbelievers. Ministers of God, who ought to be gatekeepers and watchmen over the flock, are not exempt. Leaders and followers alike are involved. Some married academics engage in sexual immorality with students or colleagues. Public office holders, law enforcement agents, politicians, and many others do the same. Unfortunately, adultery has almost become normalized.

The rise in DNA testing has also exposed paternity fraud cases. Many men have discovered—often too late—that the children they have loved, raised, and sponsored for years were not biologically theirs. Some have died from the shock and trauma of such revelations. Likewise, some husbands openly or secretly engage in adultery. The truth is that both sexes are deeply involved.

Infidelity remains one of the most destructive threats to Christian marriage today. Though modern society and some indigenous cultures may tolerate permissiveness, casual sex, polygamy, and infidelity, these acts destroy Christian testimony and bring reproach to the name of the Lord. Romans 2:24 warns that it is because of such sins that “the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles.”

Marriage is a covenant. When you break that covenant through illicit sexual relationships, you commit infidelity. The consequences are devastating, and infidelity is a grievous sin before the Lord.

Types of Adultery

Infidelity is more than physical sexual intercourse with someone other than one’s spouse. It manifests in several forms, including the following:

1. Physical Adultery

This refers to direct sexual involvement with someone other than one’s spouse (Exodus 20:14). When a married person engages in sexual relations outside marriage, adultery has been committed. Jesus further stressed that anyone who divorces a spouse for reasons other than immorality and marries commits adultery, and whoever marries the divorced person also commits adultery (Matthew 19:9).

This form of infidelity is rampant today. As Christians, we must cultivate self-control and remain content with the spouse God has given us.

Welcome to the June edition of the Singles’ World for 2025. In the last edition, I discussed with you the impact of modernist thoughts and secularism on Christian marriage. I discussed the movement by feminist activists to incite women to live independently and be assertive instead of allowing their husbands to treat them as subordinates in a marriage relationship whereas both of them are equal. I hinted that these are demonic teachings that are taught to erode the sacred Word of God and upturn the order of God in the home. The attention of the church is being called to this evil secularisation of the Word of God because it is already laying a siege against the Christian marriage.

In this edition, I will discuss another influence of modernism and secularism on Christian marriage. It is my prayer that you will not be swayed by these false teachers so that you can follow the path of godliness and righteousness.

Sex as Tool of Masculinity and Female Subjugation: Another modernist thought trending among feminist activists is that sex is a tool of masculinity for oppressing women. This perspective is rooted in a jaundiced and subjective mindset, rebelling against God’s Word and leading others astray. The Bible teaches that everything God created, including sex, is good (Genesis 1:31). God’s command to be fruitful and multiply (Genesis 1:28) necessitates sexual union between husbands and wives.

This feminist ideology implies that wives should have firm control over their bodies, submitting to sex only when they desire, defying the biblical principle that husbands and wives have authority over each other’s bodies (1 Corinthians 7:4). Such views can lead to tension and disharmony in Christian families. These malicious advocates presumptuously teach that the male sexual organ was created for oppressing women.

If these activists focused on men who abuse their wives, violate women’s primacy without consent, or engage in rape and molestation, their concerns would be understandable. Such men are deviants with morally bankrupt and depraved minds. However, their blanket statement about all men is misguided.

This feminist thought can create tension and disharmony in Christian families. If women view sex as a tool of oppression, they may:

1. Deny their husbands sex, leading to potential infidelity.

2. Reject marriage altogether, potentially leading to alternative lifestyles like lesbianism or living as “baby mamas.”

God created men and women with distinct roles, with men as initiators and women as helpmeets. The purpose of sex is to fulfill God’s mandate to be fruitful and multiply, not to oppress or subjugate women. Men and women were designed to work together in harmony, not in opposition.

We must reject this misguided ideology and uphold God’s design for marriage and sex. Men and women should work together in harmony, fulfilling God’s mandate and enjoying a healthy, loving relationship.

I am delighted to welcome you to the May edition of the Singles’ World for 2025. In the last edition, I discussed with you the influence of modernism and secularism on Christian marriage. I discussed the gradual attempt that is being made to decolonise and Africanise the Bible and thereby superimpose the doctrines of the African Traditional Religion on the infallible Word of God. I hinted that the Bible doctrines are being subverted and liberalised which I believe portends danger for the Pentecostal Christian theology.

In addition, polygamy is now being touted as the indigenous African culture which the Bible forbids because the Europeans, which purportedly wrote the Bible, want to reduce the population of the Africans. We insist that the Bible is the Word of God, and it was not written by the Europeans to enslave Africans. In this edition, I will discuss another influence of modernism and secularism on Christian marriage. This influence has continued to potentially impact negatively on the Christian marriage.

1. Independence for Women: One of the modernist trends today, as taught by the feminist activists, is to ask women to fight for their independence even in the Christian marriage. This is against the background that when such women have husbands that enforce their submission, they should fight for their independence even if it means walking out of the marriage and move on in life. According to the Christian theology, the woman was not created to live independent of her husband but to submit to her husband according of Ephesians 5:22. In fact, 1 Cor. 11:9 says that the woman was created for the man.

According to the order of God on the Christian family, the man is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the Church- Ephesians 5:23. Just as the Church cannot live independently without Christ who is the head of the church, the wife cannot live independently of her husband as the modernist false teachers teach. These false teachers believe that the Bible is unfair to women in its doctrines on marriage where the wife is under obligation to submit to her own husband.

Submission to these modernist scholars means subservience and slavery, and therefore, women are being told to stand up and fight for their independence. This is an attempt to vitiate and secularise the Word of God and also make our Christian women to be stubborn and unruly to their husbands. I say often that women feminists cannot become good wives as they believe in gender equality.

In the family setting, the husband and the wife are not equal; they may be equal in other climes though. The position of the Bible is not for women to live independent lives. That is why some Christian wives cannot endure, and they are not willing to bear anything in the marriage; their solution is to get out of any marriage that is opposed to their independence or fight the man until they are independent. That is a demonic doctrine and stand.

2. Assertiveness: Another trend in many homes today is that wives are being trained and taught to be assertive in their homes. They are taught that men don’t deserve much honour and respect or else they will maltreat you and turn you into slaves. So, assertiveness is one of the ways by which women can liberate themselves from the dominion and authority of men. I am not in support of the oppression of women, and the Bible is vehemently opposed to it.

Men are under obligation to love their wives and not to tyrannise them. But assertiveness in the feminist parlance means standing up for your right. This is not possible without some confrontation. There is no way a woman can stand up in defence of herself against the position of her husband without causing altercations and unimaginable crisis in the family. While there is nothing absolutely wrong for a woman to express her feelings and thoughts, such should be done clearly and respectfully without obviating the place of submission in the home. Unquestionably, this strange feminist thought pitches the husband against his wife through radical activism which is a rebellious attitude.

What we see eventually in the family according to this advocate of assertiveness is that we will have “two men” living together rather than a man and a woman. Like a preacher remarked, “a man loves the one he serves and the one that serves him, he fights the one that is at the level with him.” That is, the wife that is rubbing shoulders with him under the mantra that she is equal to her husband. We cannot have two masters in the same home.

The Christian marriage today is being endangered by these evil modernist thoughts. Hence, the prevalence of broken homes in society today because many Christian wives are seeking independence and freedom by hiding under assertiveness to confront their husbands in the most militant, atrocious and despicable aluta language. This modernist thought erodes the most treasured Christian ethos that exudes godliness and the sacredness of the Christian marriage.

Modernism and secularism have impacted negatively on the Christian marriage. These evil thoughts must be resisted if you want to enjoy your marriage and get the best of God. Proverbs 22:29 says “Don’t remove the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.” This is the Word of God.  Proverbs 14:1 says “Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.” Are you building your house or plucking it down? Do you want to build your house or pluck it down?
