“For to be free is not merely to cast off one’s chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.”
–Nelson Mandela
Last week Friday, due to some events that happened in the world, we asked people to send us their opinions about what freedom actually means to them. We got some opinions and we are grateful to the people who replied. Freedom has been a topic running through centuries and even with the development of the world right now, we still need to ask ourselves if we are truly free. With what happens in our own backyard to what is happening in the world at large. We need to understand the true meaning of freedom. You can still drop your opinion by commenting and please share this with people. Ask people around you and let people know what your freedom means to you! Enjoy.
My freedom means emancipation from the unfair social construct that is white supremacy.
– @Easyy_
My freedom means being able to speak and be heard and not be treated as though I am invisible and irrelevant.
– @ayodele_tomi
Freedom to me is being able to do great things and achieve a lot without being looked down on or talked about badly because of my gender, race or religion.
– @crazyolivee
My freedom is being truly treated equally to anybody in the society and not having a group that is “more equal” than others.
– @rebelblaze11
Freedom is when you wake up each morning and you can move your legs, open your eyes to see and talk anyhow you like.
– Dipo Awosika
Freedom is me being able to go anywhere in the world and not be judged racially. Freedom is no social stereotyping.
– @dhaiveed
Freedom is finding what you love and being able to embrace it completely.
– Gibson Dick
Freedom doesn’t guarantee safety.
– @pheallyj
Freedom is an exertion of the concept of free will. The minute your free will is infringed on by restrictions, and then you have lost your freedom. And this can be self-inflicted through inappropriate actions or by the deliberate dominion of others.
– Joshua
Freedom is the state of being free or at liberty than in confinement or physical restraint
– Olusola
Freedom is love. How you treat a person should be how you want people to treat you also irrespective of gender, color and even age. All the big words and descriptions from the dictionary give us little understanding of freedom. It has to come from within if not, it becomes an illusionary idea. The best method to achieve freedom is through love starting from our children because; children will forever be the world’s tomorrow.
– Raphael
Freedom is the ability to do what I want at my will and not being afraid of any kind
– Esther
I don’t know what freedom is because freedom is subjective. My freedom isn’t your freedom. Freedom isn’t something that should be described but should be expressed. It should be displayed. So from the little I know about freedom, freedom is something we have to fight for fiercely. Freedom is our dreams coming true.
