LOVE AND THE SINGLES’ WORLD 2
Welcome to the March 2023 edition of our Singles’ World. In my last discussion, I discussed love in Christian relationships and the position of God. I also discussed the misconceptions that singles have about it in today’s contemporary world. This edition is a continuation of the series. May we not be swept away by the deception of ‘love’ in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
In Philippians 2:15, this present world is described as “crooked and perverse,” and we are told to shine as lights. The devil is the master manipulator, counterfeiter and forger whose duty is to cause confusion and present the fake as original. Lust looks like love, but it is pseudo-love and many of our youths have been entrapped by it. When you have a crush on someone, the devil tells you, it is love, whereas it is bogus love.
So, infatuation, lust and crush are demonic imitations of love, and the world is ensnared and plunged into confusion. Hence, the world is lost in lust in the name of love. Men who are lost in lust hide under love to entice the innocent youths, and the gullible youths fall for lust innocently. I will now illustrate all this from the Bible.
In Judges 16:4, the Bible says, “And it came to pass afterward, that he loved a woman in the valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah.” Here, the Bible says Samson, a man of God, loved a woman, an agent of darkness, sent to destroy his destiny. How can a man love what will kill him? Delilah was Samson’s femme fatale. It was not love actually that Samson had for Delilah, it was lust; a counterfeit love. It manifests like love, but it is not love. This is common in our world today among our youths who get engaged indiscriminately in the name of love. Once they are engaged, it is usually difficult, if not impossible, for any man, including their parents and pastors to separate them when it is obvious that the relationship is a dangerous mismatch.
Three times, Delilah tried to capture Samson, but she failed because Samson did not reveal the actual source of his strength. Delilah even shouted and called on the Philistines to capture Samson and Samson heard her. Yet, Samson still revealed the source of his strength to Delilah because he loved her. That was not love. In verse 15, the Bible says, “How canst thou say, I love thee, when thine heart is not with me..? Delilah asked Samson to prove his love for her by showing her the source of his strength. To prove this evil love, Samson finally revealed the source of his strength, and he lost his life, his ministry and his destiny. Where is love in all of this then? It was lust that Samson had for Delilah.
It is lust that will make a man or woman to be engaged to a woman or man carnally when it is obvious that there is no way there. It is lust that will make your partner demand sex from you as proof of your love for him when you are not yet married. You don’t prove your love to your fiancée by disobeying the Word of God. This is common in our world today. Christians can hardly wait in purity and holiness till the wedding night. That is why virginity has been expunged from the dictionary of our youths today. Thank God for the Virgin Mary who kept herself for the Saviour of the world to be born through her. When your fiancé demands sex from you to prove your love for him, tell him to get away. That is love in the dictionary of the world; but in the Word of God, it is sin. 1 Thessalonians 4:3 says, “For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication.” If you don’t abstain from fornication and you practise it as a test of love for your partners, you are a child of Satan and a transgressor of the Word of God.
Lust is insatiable until it kills, but love is refreshing and satisfying. Sex is only permitted in a marriage relationship. When it is done outside it, it is sin, and it will be punished. Love gives, but lust takes away. Love is a giver, but lust is a killer. The love of God gave us Jesus who gave us life eternal, but the lust of the world gave us death and eternal damnation. It was lust that killed Samson, and it is still killing people today. Don’t confuse love with lust. Sugar and salt may look alike, but they are different in chemical compositions and their uses.
If you are not married and you are burning with lust in your heart and you are longing to have sex with him or her and you call it love, you are wrong. If you have issues with your husband and another man outside is showing interest in you in the name of love and you are falling for him because you are seeing love in this man now, you are in lust and not in love. Get out of this web of Satan and seek deliverance quickly before it is too late. The Lord will deliver you.
By the grace of God, we will continue from here next month. Please don’t forget to send me your comments and testimonies. In case, you are not born again, please surrender your life to Jesus Christ today. Tomorrow may be too late. Till then, God bless you. Amen.
