“Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill.
If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand”
Matthew 5:14-15
The Olive branch came to life today 4 years ago. We are extremely moved by the passionate love and support we’ve gotten over the years. So many fans close to home and far away.
Our journey to 4 has been a rollercoaster. Moving sites twice and even almost giving up, Trying to be consistent with the blog and also with medical school. We thank God and we thank our supporters. Thank you for everything.
As we write this and as you read this today, the world is in a standstill and also a bubbling chaos with so much anger and hate.
This pandemic, the killings, the rape, the racism and the prejudice out there. Its saddening and utterly heartbreaking.
The pandemic(COVID19) has caused a standstill since march but we thank God that countries have started reopening and things are gradually becoming normal but please still try to stay safe and follow the health guidelines.
We also mourn with anyone who has lost a loved one this period. May God comfort you and for the people who had a lot of major things to achieve this year, the year isn’t over yet. Don’t give up now.
Now the issue with police shootings not only in Nigeria but America. The racism and prejudice. The madness needs to stop.
Firstly, the people in authority and the people that are supposed to protect need to stop taking lives that don’t belong to them in the first place. The government needs to also step into all of this and give the people a sort of reassurance that they understand what is happening and they want to stop what is happening. Enough with the sympathy messages. There has to be action and change has to come. It must.
Racism is another deep, never ending pain that has existed from time immemorial for reasons I can’t understand.
Why must the color of my skin matter so much? Why will I miss out of opportunities and why will my basic human rights be denied just because of the color of my skin? It’s baffling honestly. Conversations need to be had and people need to start being accountable. There should be no room for hate. Spread love, let the hate dissolve and spread your light. The world needs it.
Then there’s rape, a very barbaric and inhumane act and it’s sad that women have been on the recieving end of this for a very long time. The statistics are baffling and the stories are heartbreaking. It needs to end. This isn’t a matter of it could be your wife or daughter or sister. Just stop raping. Stop justifying rape also. There is and will be no excuse for it.
We need to do better. We need to learn and unlearn a lot and actively change this world, after all, we are the ones in it.
Speak to your friends, your children, even your parents, there’s no indifference in these issues. You’re either for or against it.
“If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone”(Romans 12:18)
Parents, please protect your children, respect them and always create a safe space for them to confide in you when there is a problem.
We hope that this time next year, the world has evolved and things have changed. We hope you’ve achieved a margin of your dreams and we hope you’re out there making your light shine. The Olive branch will hopefully still be here and we hope to keep making you proud.
Love and more love,
Ayokunle and Esther.
