Over the past weeks, I realised something that I decided to write about. Most times we talk, chat and give pieces of advice to people. And they are like Wow! Thanks! You’re right. And you feel so happy within yourself. In fact, I can say so many things about many things and my friends and I talk about them a lot. I attribute all these to my wide reading habits and interests so to say. Using relationship as an example, I can talk at length about it. This is as a result of my exposure to messages, books and so on about relationships. So I can tell you a lot about stuffs like that.
Someone said it’s easier said than done. Actually it’s very true. At a point in my life, I had to put those counsels into practice and then I found it so difficult, and I was so worried. It was a battle going back and forth. It broke me. It wasn’t a difficult thing to do but then I just couldn’t do it. But finally, I took my own advice and that was it.
I thought it was so easy to do the way I talked and gave advice. But I must be sincere, it’s not easy most times but with God it’s easy.
If we live and act by what we preach, we really would be better people. This goes to everyone and it goes a long way. Many people feel exactly the way I felt when it’s time to take a step about something.
Some of us can talk extensively about giving, pride, humility, forgiveness and so many other things, but when faced with issues like that they don’t know how to react. It becomes difficult. The people you advised would tell you, you told me to do this the other time and I did it and it worked. Why can’t you? It becomes a problem. You can’t even explain what’s wrong with you. All you just know is that it’s so difficult for you to do. You can’t live by what you preach, you can’t live by example. But then people are blessed by what you’ve told them and they have good testimonies. Sometimes, it’s about God’s counsel concerning our lives and we fail to yield to it too. We just want our own will to be done. God says No! I want you to go this way but you just don’t want to. You find it so hard.
What exactly is wrong and what is the way out? I guess we just didn’t pay attention. The things we said have no impact in our lives yet. It was just on the surface. It’s like; yeah I’ve read about it somewhere. Somehow, I know what you should do in times like this, so it’s this and that. No! It doesn’t work that way.
It has to be processed; God would have worked on you. You would have practised it. Then, it becomes easier to tell people about the counsel you’re giving. You can relate with them.
This all boils down to following Christ as our perfect example. He lived by what He preached, and He has given us the grace to live like Him and to walk in His ways.
We need to be broken, because flesh sometimes hinders us. Practise living by what you preach. Also, live by the counsel that you give to others. Let him take all of you because He’s our everything. Let his counsel stand.
Are you yielding totally to Him today or you are yielding partially to Him? Do you take your own wonderful advice or you just take part or you don’t even take it at all?
